Hands Offering Support

Foundational Supports Community Champions

Disability support is changing.

It is the biggest change in a generation. Wide Bay Advocacy is here to help. We are training local people to support their own community through it.

Our Community Champions live with disability themselves. They are training now. When foundational supports roll out, they will be ready to help others like you. They will point you to good information. They will help you connect with the right supports. They live here, so they get it. And our team backs them with training and steady support.

We work across Wide Bay Burnett and Central Queensland regions.

What is a Community Champion?

A Champion is a local person who lives with disability. They have trained to help others in their own community.

Champions are not paid case workers. They are community members who understand disability from the inside. That is what makes their help different.

A Champion can provide:

Peer Support

Help you find services and support.

Community Connection

Connect you with local groups

Advocacy & Awareness

Share what they have learned, and listen. Stand beside you as you find your way

How can we help you today?

I want to become a Champion
I am looking for support

You live with disability. You know your community. You want to help other people, and grow your own skills along the way.

We train you and support you the whole way. You do not need any experience. You just need to care.

We are welcoming new Champions now.

You live in our region. You, or someone you care for, lives with disability. You want help to find services, groups, or just someone who gets it.

Champions are training now. When foundational supports roll out, they will be ready to help. Want to know when? Leave your details and we will let you know.

Where we work.

The program runs across the Wide Bay Burnett and Central Queensland regions.

You will find Champions in:

Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Childers, Rockhampton, Gympie and Gladstone

We are still growing. If your town is not on the list yet, get in touch anyway. We would love to hear from you.

Warm Hug

Why this matters.

Many people with disability in our region are missing out. They are not getting the support they need. They can feel cut off from services, from information, and from each other.

Our Champions are changing that, one connection at a time.

Who runs the program?

The Foundational Supports Community Champions program is run by Wide Bay Advocacy. We are a not-for-profit based in regional Queensland. For years we have stood up for people with disability through independent systems advocacy.

This program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services.

We did not build this program alone. We built it with the community. And we based it on real evidence. To keep it practical, we set up an Expert Advisory Group (EAG).

The group brings together people who know disability well. Some live with it. Some advocate for it. Some are experts in the field. Together, they shaped the program. Their input made it what it is today. The goal is simple. Supports should be easy to reach. They should include everyone. And they should give people with disability more say over their own lives.
